SmackFootball Ways To Score
Pre-Season
- Heisman Winner – Pick a Heisman Winner, and if your pick is a finalist, you get 2 bonus points, and a winner gets 5 bonus points. So if your pick gets invited, that’s +2 points and an ADDITIONAL +3 if they win for a total of +5 points for correctly picking a Heisman. If you are the only player to pick the Heisman Winner, you get an additional +3 bonus points for a total of +8 points.
- Coaches Hot Seat – Pick a coach that you think will lose his job. Fired, replaced, missing, hit by a bus, whatever. The week your coach is no longer the functioning head coach of a D1 team, you get +5 bonus points during the regular season, +2 points during the bowl season, and +3 additional bonus points if you are the only person who picked that coach.
- Playoff Predictions – Pick 12 teams that you think will make the playoffs. You get +1 point for each team that makes the playoffs. You get +1 point for each round that your team(s) advances in the playoff brackets. Possible total of +26 max points. If you are the ONLY person who picks a team that makes it to the playoffs, that team is worth an extra +1 point for each level it advances.
- The Golf Handicap – Previous Champions start each season with -5 points for every year that they have won the championship.
Regular and Bowl Seasons
- Weekly Picks – Weekly picks with Smack are explained below. Basically, you are picking the winner each week of 7 games.
- Lone Wolf – If you are the only person to pick a team to win and your team wins, you get double the points you would normally get PLUS a 5 point bonus.
- Hail Mary – Each week, if you are ranked in the bottom 25% (including ties), then you get an additional option to PICK ONE GAME as your “Hail Mary”. Any positive points awarded are doubled and any negative points are negated. So the best you could do is 12 and the worst you could do is 0 (zero). To be clear. Let’s say you picked Smack of The Plow and got it right, your points are doubled. You get 6 points instead of the usual 3. Let’s say you got it wrong. Instead of the usual -2, you would get 0 (zero). You will only see the Hail Mary option if you are eligible (ranked in the bottom 25%) for the Hail Mary each week.
- The Unicorn – The rarest of achievements. Only attainable through the most outstanding amount of dumb luck ever in the history of football. To win “The Unicorn”, you must:
- Be Hail Mary eligible and choose the Hail Mary
- Choose the winning team with the maximum bonus of “The Smack“
- AND be the Lone Wolf!
It’s The Unicorn, the mythical beast of shiny things. There is a trophy. The stars glow in the dark so that you can continue to see it’s awesomeness even at night.
Football Picks SmackDown Rules
Smack is pretty simple.
On Smack games, you are simply stating that the team you think will win -will not simply win – but will…The Rules:
A straight win is worth 1 point.
A straight loss is worth 0 points.
– as in by 10 points or better.
This is Level 1 Smack or “A Win”.
A called win with “A Win” is worth 1 point for the win and 1 point for “A Win” = 2 points.
Basically, your team has shown up and “Taken Care of Business”.
– as in by 14 points or better.
This is Level 2 Smack or “The Plow”.
A called win with “The Plow” is worth 1 point for the win and 2 points for “The Plow” = 3 points.
– as in 17 points or better.
This is Level 3 Smack or “The Beatdown”.
A called win with “The Beatdown” is worth 1 point for the win and 3 points for “The Beatdown” = 4 points.
– a beating so bad that it just shouldn’t be seen – as in 21 points or better.
This is Level 4 Smack or “The Woodshed”.
A called win with “The Woodshed” is worth 1 point for the win and 4 points for “The Woodshed” = 5 points.
– To give someone “TheSmack” is the ultimate of insults. You beat them….badly 24 points or better
…and now you’re throwing it in their face.
Go home and cry to momma.
A called win with “The Smack” is worth 1 point for the win and 5 points for “The Smack” = 6 points.
Now…. let’s just say that you were right about the win but didn’t get the Win, Plow, Beatdown, Woodshed, or Smack.
You still get 1 point for calling the win correctly, but 0 points for not getting the Win, Plow, Beatdown, Woodshed, or Smack correct.
Here’s the kicker….
Let’s say that you call the win wrong.
A straight loss is still worth 0 points.
BUT….
If you call “A Win” you get DEDUCTED 1 point = -1.
If you called “The Plow” you get DEDUCTED 2 point = -2.
If you called “The Beatdown” you get DEDUCTED 3 points = -3.
If you called “The Woodshed” you get DEDUCTED 4 points = -4.
If you called “The Smack” you get DEDUCTED 5 points = -5.
So the best score you can get per game is +6 and the worst is -5.
Examples:
Let’s say that it’s the Florida Gators at Florida State Seminoles.
Let’s say the Gators won 27 – 10…. so a 17 point game.
Your level of Smack | No Smack | The Win (10) | The Plow (14) | The Beatdown (17) | The Woodshed (21) | The SMACK (24+) |
If you chose: Gators | +1 | +2 | +3 | +4 | +1 (+1 for win but no Smack bonus) | +1 (+1 for win but no Smack bonus) |
If you chose: Seminoles | 0 | -1 | -2 | -3 | -4 | -5 |
Other Rules and References
SmackFootball Regular Season – This begins at the second that Week 1 locks down. We have set this at 11:00 am, Friday before the 1st Saturday game. Anytime before this is Pre-season. For instance, if your coach gets fired pre-season, it doesn’t count.
SmackFootball Bowl Season – This begins at the kickoff of the first Saturday Bowl Game.
Gibbs’ Rule #28 – “If you need help, ask.” But if you go 3 weeks in a row without playing, we suspend your account so that the real bottom ten can play the Hail Mary. No hard feelings. If you want to keep playing, just ask and we’ll reinstate your account. (This rule goes into effect for the 2019 season.)
Winning and Tie-Breaking
The winner is decided after all games (including Bowls) have been played and the scores are added up.
- 1st Tie-Breaker is adding up the total games called correctly. Regular Season and Bowl Season are added together. Smack does not matter.
- 2nd Tie-Breaker is picking a Winner and Smack for the NFL Super Bowl. If the Tied players pick the same team and Smack, they each pick an over/under score.
- 3rd Tie-Breaker is a flip of a coin because I ain’t buying two trophies.
I think this is pretty clear.
Clear as mud.
