May 2026 Update:

For more than 20 years, SmackFootball has been built around one thing above all else — the players, rivalries, traditions, and weekly excitement that make this game special. As we prepare for the 2026 season and beyond, we’re excited to begin rolling out the biggest behind-the-scenes upgrades in SmackFootball history. These updates are designed to modernize the site, improve weekly content, simplify season management, and create new features for players and fans — all while keeping the core SmackFootball experience exactly the same.

The heart of SmackFootball is not changing. Weekly picks, hidden selections before lock time, rivalry battles, bowl season chaos, preseason predictions, Hail Mary picks, rankings, and the competitive spirit that has defined this game for decades will all remain intact. The goal is not to reinvent SmackFootball — it’s to strengthen it, modernize it, and prepare it for the future while protecting the traditions that longtime players love.

Over the coming months and seasons, players can expect improvements including enhanced mobile support, smarter weekly updates, AI-powered game previews and upset alerts, better historical tracking, expanded statistics, easier league management, and new community features that celebrate the personalities and history of the game.

SmackFootball began as a passion project among friends. Twenty years later, it has become a tradition. The next chapter is about building a stronger platform around the same game we’ve all come to love every football season.

Well, this is the plan anyway… :)

SmackFootball Week 1 Preview

Week 1 2026 College Football Preview: Rivalries, Upset Alerts & Must-Watch SmackFootball Action

Welcome back, college football fans! Week 1 is here, and it’s already shaping up to be a wild ride full of intensity, huge stakes, and plenty of drama. From powerhouse showdowns to sneaky upset alerts, we’re breaking down the games SmackFootball players can’t afford to miss. Buckle up — the 2026 season starts NOW.

---

### North Carolina vs TCU (-6.5)
The SmackDown Showdown You Can’t Miss

A top-10 throwdown right out of the gate. North Carolina and TCU are battle-tested programs with playoff aspirations, and this game sets the tone for their seasons. TCU’s home field gives them a slight edge on the spread, but UNC’s balanced offense and lockdown defense make this a toss-up. Expect fireworks. Playmakers from both sides will shine — this is a must-watch for SmackFootball players looking for high-risk, high-reward action.

---

### North Carolina State vs Virginia (-3.5)
Atlantic Coast Clash with Playoff Hopes on the Line

A gritty ACC rivalry kicks off with both teams hungry for relevance. NCSU has the physicality; Virginia’s improved secondary could cause havoc. The spread is tight, signaling a potential nail-biter. This game could easily swing the perception of both teams’ playoff chances. SmackFootball sleepers should keep an eye here for potential underdog scoring opportunities.

---

### New Mexico State vs Florida State (-20.0)
Upset Alert? Probably Not… But Watch the Details

FSU is a huge favorite, and for good reason. They should dominate a rebuilding New Mexico State squad. But don’t sleep on the underdog pride and NMSU’s chance to pull off a minor upset. For SmackFootball players looking for low-risk punts or looking to invest in a breakout player, Florida State’s backfield is loaded with talent ready to explode.

---

### Clemson vs LSU (-10.5)
SEC vs ACC – A Clash of Titans

Clemson and LSU are no strangers to playoff pressure. This early-season battle will give us a glimpse into who’s the real deal. LSU’s -10.5 spread suggests confidence, but Clemson’s defense can disrupt even the toughest offenses. This game has upset potential and major playoff ramifications. SmackFootball players should track defensive stats here — turnovers and sacks will be game-changers.

---

### Boise State vs Oregon (-30.0)
David vs Goliath? Maybe Not… But Don’t Blink

Oregon is a juggernaut favored by a massive 30 points — yes, 30! While Boise State is a solid program, this looks like a tune-up for the Ducks. Still, never count out the Broncos’ blue turf magic. For SmackFootball players, Oregon’s explosive offense is a prime source for touchdowns and fantasy points, but Boise’s grit means hidden gems could emerge.

---

### Liberty vs James Madison (-9.5)
Group of 5 Grit Meets FCS Magic

James Madison’s move up the ranks has fans buzzing. Liberty is battle-tested but underdog in this matchup. The spread suggests a tight game, and it could be a thriller. SmackFootball players hunting for breakout candidates and value picks should watch this one closely — both teams bring physicality and tactical edge.

---

### Wisconsin vs Notre Dame (-16.5)
Big Ten vs Independent – Clash of Traditions

This is the kind of classic heavyweight fight we love in college football. Notre Dame’s strong passing game and Wisconsin’s bruising run game make for a compelling matchup. The spread leans toward Notre Dame, but Wisconsin’s defense can be a game-changer. SmackFootball players — especially those with a taste for high-upside defenses — don’t sleep on this one.

### Final Thoughts

Week 1 is stacked with rivalry fire, playoff implications, and fantasy football gold. From the top-10 slugfest between UNC and TCU to the gritty battles in the ACC and beyond, these games will set the tone for the 2026 season.

SmackFootball players? Get ready to watch, draft, and dominate. This week, the gridiron’s finest will be tested — and so will your fantasy instincts. Stay loud, stay sharp, and enjoy the kickoff chaos.

See you next week for more bangers and breakdowns!

Here are some rule changes for SmackFootball 2025!

Addition of SUPER SMACK  – Smack level 6 for 30+point win.
People who stop playing for 2 weeks turn purple and do not count towards the HailMary bottom 25% until they return.

Here are some rule changes for SmackFootball 2026!

When making your Pre-Season playoff picks, you will pick 2 of those teams that you think will go to the National Championship. If they make it to the National Championship game, you will get extra points per team.
Also, if you are the only person to pick a team to go to the playoffs, you will get two points instead of one for each level that team advances.

What IS SmackFootball?

SmackFootball is a free College Football 7 game weekly pick’em.
Points are based on your knowledge of college football and a ton of blind luck. Points are also awarded depending on the level of SMACK you put on a game. Smack is like a spread. Sort of. Anyway…..do you feel lucky?

SmackFootball is NOT Fantasy Football.
GOOD GRIEF! We are too lazy and are not interested in spending that much time on ANYTHING. If you want to research and get all strategy, fine. If you want to just log in and make 7 quick picks, fine too. You’ll probably do just as well as the strategists.

SmackFootball is and always will be free to play.
1st place gets a nice engraved crystal football trophy.
The trash talk is PG and good-natured, unless you’re a fan of Tennessee or Miami. You understand, I am sure.

Currently, SmackFootball is only open to people we know and friends of friends.
Register and let me know who you are and I’ll activate your account. Registration just requires a valid email address and a name. YES, you can be Captain Jack Sparrow if you want….keep it PG, hooligan.

How do I score points?!?!

  • Pick winners for 7 games selected each week.
  • Smack Points – Pick spread points for each game. +- points based on levels of your predicted win or loss
  • Pre-season – Playoffs Picks – Pick 4 teams (12 starting in 2024) that you think will make the college playoffs. + points for each correct team.
  • Pre-season – Coaches Hot Seat – Pick a coach and if your coach gets fired, you win points
  • Pre-season – Heisman – Pick a Heisman candidate. If he wins, you win points
  • Lone Wolf – bonus points if you are the only person to pick a team, coach, playoff team, Heisman candidate, or Heisman winner and they win
  • Hail Mary – bonus points if you are on the bottom and need to start taking some shots downfield
  • “The Unicorn” – (This has its own trophy.) This is a game won where a player chooses The Smack + Lone Wolf + Hail Mary. We think this is worth something like 34 points. It has never happened. Not even close.

Winner take all, baby! Second place is the first loser. :)
Are you ready for some college football?!?!?!
No. You are NOT ready…..
